Jon Sundack

Managing Partner

Jon excels in crafting tax strategies and guiding businesses toward financial success. His expertise lies in helping clients become more tax-efficient, ensuring that they maximize their potential while staying compliant.

Jon’s favorite part of his role is the opportunity to work closely with the Sundack CPA team and their clients. He enjoys the collaborative environment, where he can share knowledge and mentor employees. His dedication to helping businesses thrive goes beyond tax efficiency, as he actively supports their growth and development.

Outside the office, Jon enjoys a variety of personal interests, including cooking, golf, and hockey. Peruvian Food is his favorite, and if he weren’t an accountant, he would likely pursue a career as a chef. Jon also appreciates the simple pleasures in life, like spending time with family and friends—and, of course, enjoying a good tequila.

Jarett Sundack

Partner

Jarett serves as a Partner at Sundack CPA, where he specializes in helping clients understand and grow their businesses with a focus on tax planning. His expertise lies in navigating the unique challenges that businesses face, and he takes pride in crafting tailored solutions that drive success. Jarett’s broad knowledge and problem-solving skills make him the go-to person for nearly everything in the office.

Outside of his professional role, Jarett is passionate about golf and hockey. In his downtime, he enjoys playing a round of golf, smoking a brisket, and unwinding with episodes of The Office.

Jarett values his family, his friends, and finding ways to incorporate golf into everyday conversations. If he weren’t immersed in accounting, he’d likely be pursuing his dream as a professional golfer. His dedication to both his work and personal interests makes him a dynamic and engaging figure at Sundack CPA.

Steven Sundack

CPA

I’m the firm’s original founder, establishing Sundack back in 1979, and I’m very proud of the company as it stands today. I manage a number of our clients, giving them strategic financial advice as well as overseeing their accounts. I’ve been an accountant all my life, I still love what I do, and it’s largely down to the people I work with, team and clients alike. When I’m not at work, I’m out socializing with friends or taking the time out to properly recharge (it’s important!). I’m happy to say I have a great work/life balance, and I think our team does too.

Thomas Brown

CPA

Tom founded Thomas Brown, CPA, in 2004 after working for the fifth-largest accounting firm in the world, Grant Thornton, as well as other regional CPA firms and serving as Corporate Tax Director for a multinational corporation. As a business owner himself, Tom understands the delicate balance between business and personal life. He strives to help clients improve this balance with back-office support and technology solutions. By utilizing the latest technology and strategic planning, he helps business owners achieve their personal and business goals, maximize profits, and minimize taxes.

Tom was also previously on staff at The State University of New York at Stony Brook and St. Joseph’s College, teaching auditing, accounting, and tax courses at the bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Now, Tom and his team have joined Sundack CPA, bringing his expertise to continue supporting clients with the same dedication. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife and kids, going to the beach, watching sports, and supporting charitable causes.

Varun Kathait CPA, ESQ

Tax Director

Varun is the go-to expert for all things tax, accounting, and legal at Sundack CPA. As our Tax and Advisory Manag, he specializes in Federal and State criminal and civil tax matters, offering tailored solutions for complex challenges. With deep expertise in corporate, partnership, estate, and gift taxation, Varun is a trusted advisor to sophisticated taxpayers.

Outside of work, Varun enjoys tennis, golf, fishing, skiing, and spending time with his family. He’s a fan of Rothmans, loves the book Lonesome Dove, and enjoys The Departed and The Sopranos. Coffee, family, and his notepad are his daily essentials.

Varun holds a B.A. in Economics from Emory University and a law degree from Hofstra University. He’s also a leader in professional organizations, including serving as President of the Education Foundation of the National Association of CPA Practitioners – N/S Chapter and Chair of the Business, Tax and Accounting Committee of the Nassau bar Association. Varun’s blend of expertise and client-focused approach makes him a valuable asset to any financial or legal matter.

Melissa Pepitone

Staff Accountant

My job is to make sure that our clients’ finances are in good standing. I’m hyper organized, into detail and particularly enjoy finding solutions to difficult roadblocks. I really like how the Sundack team has a genuine, open relationship with our clients. They feel safe to ask us anything, which is half the battle as an accountant. When I’m not at work I’m traveling to places steeped in history, hanging out with my husband or getting into nature with my dog.

Dylan Racaniello

Dylan specializes in keeping clients tax-compliant and guiding them through the complexities of sales and payroll taxes. With a strong expertise in QuickBooks and various certifications under his belt, Dylan is the go-to resource for anything QuickBooks-related. He takes pride in helping clients find new solutions to better their businesses and providing detailed tax planning and preparation services.What Dylan enjoys most about his role is the opportunity to interact with clients and colleagues alike. He thrives on learning from each unique situation, which helps him build stronger relationships and deliver the high level of service that Sundack CPA is known for. Balancing work with a healthy personal life is important to Dylan, and he appreciates the supportive environment that allows him to do just that.Outside of the office, Dylan is an avid soccer fan who loves both watching and playing the sport a few times a week. He also enjoys spending time in nature with his pets and family. A true pasta enthusiast, Dylan could eat it every day if he could! He’s also a fan of The Maze Runner series and values family, pets, and technology. If accounting weren’t his calling, Dylan imagines he’d be a social media marketer.

Kristie Raynor

Staff Accountant

Kristie brings expertise in QuickBooks Online, financial statements, and monthly reconciliations. She thrives on the variety her role offers, enjoying tasks such as reconciliations, client file cleanups, software conversions, and training others. Kristie is the go-to person for anything related to QuickBooks Online, reverse-engineering entries, and creating templates for recurring entries.

Outside the office, Kristie leads a dynamic life as the lead singer and keyboard player for a rock band. She’s also an avid hiker and traveler who loves to cook and experiment with new cuisines, though she’s always up for dining out. Her favorite movie is Glory, and she still enjoys watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Kristie values her daily essentials: coffee, her cat, and the thrill of learning and experiencing new things. If she weren’t an accountant, she might have pursued a career as a history teacher or tour guide.

Aditi Khatri

CPA

Aditi excels in preparing tax returns and tax planning. Her passion for tax work shines through in her role, particularly when it comes to finding innovative ways to help clients save on taxes. 

Outside the office, Aditi has a love for movies and traveling. She finds joy in exploring new places and enjoys unwinding with a good film. Her favorite cuisine is Indian food, and she considers The Shawshank Redemptionher top movie pick.

Aditi values her family deeply and is known for her efficiency and ability to get things done effectively. If she weren’t immersed in the world of accounting, she would be pursuing her dream of becoming a professor.

Carleen McCance

Office Admin

Carleen brings over 25 years of office administration experience to Sundack CPA, including a decade in the Accounting/Tax industry. As a vital member of our client services team, Carleen plays a key role in ensuring the smooth daily operations of our firm, with a focus on quality control, marketing, and client relations. Additionally, she is a notary public and holds a BBA in Business Management.

Carleen finds great satisfaction in helping clients and is committed to providing them with exceptional service. When she’s not at work, Carleen enjoys watching football, reading, going to the beach, coaching her children’s soccer team, and cherishing time with her husband and kids.

Amanda Hess

Operations / Admin

Amanda is the dynamic force behind the smooth operation of Sundack CPA’s office. As part of the Operations/Admin team, Amanda expertly manages correspondence and communications, handling everything from emails and calls to meetings. Her administrative skills shine through in tasks like filing, organizing documents, data entry, invoicing, and maintaining internal databases. She’s also the go-to person for anything related to the firm’s work software, Karbon.

Amanda thrives in her role by being a central figure in keeping the office running seamlessly. She enjoys supporting her colleagues and helping resolve client issues, always with a focus on ensuring everything is in order. Her ability to juggle multiple tasks and keep everything on track makes her a vital part of the team.

Outside of work, Amanda is passionate about travel, music, and attending concerts and shows. She loves spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.
